This is off beam ,but… the most amoral people I have ever met have been fanatic Catholics. They outsource their consciences by sinning, confessing, doing their Hail Marys and then onto the next round of sinning.
I suspect Abbott thinks its OK to lie because a) the end justifies the means and b) God will give him a get out of jail card.
